YELLOWSTONE actually took my breath away. Really, and not just because of the hikes and high altitude. The views are amazing! I am not sure that any picture I can share or words I can type will capture the majesty that is Yellowstone. In fairness, the Grand Tetons are pretty darn amazing too! We just spent less time there, and so as a result have I fewer pictures of the them. We changed hotels 7 times over a period of 12 days and packed and unpacked enough to make one wonder if it was all worth it. Why yes, yes, it was!
If you have never been, you will just have to take my word for how beautiful it is there. And these pictures may just inspire you to pack your bags and see it yourself. If you have been, you know beauty there is EVERYWHERE! The colors, wildflowers, sunsets, mountains, animals, and the sky are all awe-inspiring. I found myself on the flight home thinking about how this trip could be related to interior design. There was something for everyone for to see and enjoy. The sunsets, hikes, flowers, views, mountains, animals, waterfalls, lakes, the big sky, geothermal features and gysers were constant reminders that beauty comes in all shapes, forms and combinations. Often we find ourselves caught in design ruts. We see something on pintrest and like it but wonder if we could pull that off. Jumping off the rock cliff was a great reminder to take the chances we get!
The wild flowers were in bloom while we were there and it proves even the most beautiful setting can be accessorized with fresh flowers! These wild geraniums were in vibrant shades of pinks and purples and went on for acres! Fresh flowers in your rooms are the easiest way to bring the nature in and add a pop of color.
I love the contrast in this picture. The Bison with the steam from the mud flats shows how even basic neutrals of browns, grays, and whites can make big impact. Simple color contrast is as powerful as the sunset above. Thats what was so great about all that we saw on this trip! Just as in design, there is a view or in design a color scheme for everyone.
The Grand Prismatic Spring honestly gave me goose bumps. The overwhelming vibrant colors flowing into each other left me speechless. It was a palette of colors that prove as easy as monochromatic can, be dramatic and modern color can be welcoming and comforting. Both are impactful and both have a place in design. I was drawn to both and thankful for options in nature and our homes.
Here are a few more pictures showing the diversity in the landscape. Hope you find them to be inspiring too.
